Week 2 SS11 Moodboard: Feathers and Tye-Dye

Put together a little moodboard of the look I am feeling this week. After having a blunder with a tight fitting maxi skirt and falling flat on my face, I may purchase I new one, one with a bit of leg room maybe! The colour pallette is a little mixed, yet khaki, black is a good choice, and duck egg blue with light burgandy is nice for winter moving into spring contrast! Wild.

Boho for Summer

Remember me saying how much I loved Topshop Snake Valley? A mix of rock and 60's festival whore? Well this spread in April's Elle has definately made me smile. Tassles, aztec prints, tie-dye, studs, tan leather, cowboy boots, coloured beads, and snake print. I can't promise that my whole wardrobe will be dedicated to this trend this summer but it sure will be dominated by it. Thanks Elle for some luxe inspiration.

ELLE Cover April 2011

Such a luscious front cover, beautiful colour. I prefer to have the ELLE collectors editions covers,   they're simple, with little text; the text that is there is succinct yet simple, 'Gwen Stefani the climb'.

SelfPortrait

This is me,

Valley of the Snakes

If you were wondering what I meant by snake valley trend in Topshop its the one printed on the left hand   side.

Topshop Uniform, Perks of the job

Every three months all sales advisors and staff get 60% off anything in-store! Cheers all around. This season I struggled. My favourite trend is Snake Valley, as it's inspired by rock god Jimi Hendrix and the whole 60's festival era, which is totally my style, girly glam rock. Yet I simply couldn't piece an outfit together from that trend so I took to Swedish Summer, also 60's inspired yet with a 70's floaty crochet twist and floral fancies, think all things pastel, coral, and ice blue. Here's what I chose:

Aztec Princess

Sneaky purchase from the place of work last week! This could be teamed with the maxi skirt like I said.

Topshop Zine 214 SS11

I got it before you. Here's some snappy snaps. I am going to use it as inspiration for my next FCP project (That's Fashion Communication and Promotion for those of you out of the know, my course at Nottingham Trent.), a zine project where I will shoot key style looks through a fish eye lense to give it that underground edge.

Key Looks Week 1 SS11

Every week I shall choose my favourite looks for that week. My inspirations will usually be taken from Lookbook.nu or my favourite magazines, yet 'look' moodboards are the way forward! I like to call them 'Moodlooks' or 'Lookmoods'.

I have abit of a festival/boho belle look going on in all these photographs here, apart from the chic leopard print hate with lace cream waist skirt. I have to work the maxi look this week, I know its still chilly early-march yet long maxi skirts can be teamed with heavy boots and lot's of chunky jewellery for the early spring season. I dont care what anybody says, leopard print will always be a part of my style. Leopard print and leather = rock.

Promoting a Sale

Just like I said, here's an example of All Saints promoting their SS10 sale. The mannequins are bare; stripped to represent the stripping down of the prices and rather than showing new season trends on the mannequins they would rather show nothing.
 Again for H&M.
 And in Selfridges, Manchester.
I love these cheeky illustrations, perfect visual presentation to reflect Agent Provocateur. It preaches to the naughty side of their consumer, almost like 'come inside, be naughty and spend!'.
Not too keen on this visual merchandising of a sale, and not too sure what brand it is either, but I like the idea of dressing the mannequin in sale paper to represent a dress form.

Mannequin Me.

The Bread and Butter Trade show in Berlin. These are a pinch of the photos I took whilst a visitor at the prestigious show full of every brand worth knowing! Here I have focused on; Mannequins. An articulated doll used by artists, illustrators, tailors and dressmakers according to wikipedia. Yet 1987 film 'Mannequin' gives a twisted, crazy yet somewhat likeable factor for the lifesized, and often headless dummies. At the trade show, they were everywhere, obviously because they were promoting fashion but mannequins that were styled purely to just be on show, to just be a mannequin. Often, certain brands will use the doll in store windows without being clothed, I usually notice this trend around sale time, it tells the consumer that there is a mysterious sale inside and you can only find out if you walk in-store.

Stil In Berlin 2011

First post has to be my favourite chosen images that I took when in Berlin in January this year. These photos come from various parts of the icy but fascinating city break. The photograph above was took in Garage a vintage shop renowned for selling their clothing by weight rather than individually priced items. I love the crazy merchandising (if you can call it merchandising anyway, more like random bits and bobs slung together, but it works for me).
